Slovenia deals with cyanobacterial blooming but mainly in accumulations not related to potable water reservoirs, tourism or recreation. No national regulation about cyanotoxins is present at the moment (2014) but we monitor the microcystin concentration, when cyanobacterial bloom is present at touristic locations (in the frame of Bathing Water Directive). A small team from National Institute of Biology in Ljubljana has many experiences in cyanobacterial sampling, monitoring, microscopy, cyanotoxin measurement, ecotoxicology, determination of genotoxic potential of cyanotoxins and their complex mixtures.
